Sebaceous hyperplasia appears as small, soft, yellowish or skin-coloured bumps, often with a tiny central dip, on the forehead, nose and cheeks. They are enlarged oil glands and are benign.
Each bump is treated with a very fine thermocoagulation probe that targets the enlarged gland at the surface, flattening its appearance without cutting.
A tiny crust forms and flakes away over about one to two weeks. Larger bumps may need a second session, and new ones can form over time.
Moles, cysts and suspicious lesions are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. Any spot that is changing, irregular or unusual is referred to a physician or dermatologist before any cosmetic treatment. Where there is any uncertainty, Liza will not treat without written confirmation from your physician that the lesion is benign and suitable.
Liza earned her esthetics college diploma and licence in 2000, while BC’s former Cosmetologists Act was in force; BBB has verified her diploma. Since 2003, no licence has been required to practise esthetics in BC, and “medical esthetician” (or “medical aesthetician”) is not a regulated title. BC regulates the premises instead: Cantik’s studio is inspected every year by Fraser Health.
Diagnosing skin conditions and removing moles or cysts are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. These are referred to a physician or dermatologist.
Liza uses the Silhouet-Tone VascuLyse 2G®, a Health Canada-licensed device. You have the right to ask what device will be used on your skin and whether it is licensed by Health Canada.
Who will perform my treatment? What training do they hold? Is the device licensed by Health Canada? Will you refer anything outside your scope?
It is common with age and with oily skin, as oil glands enlarge over time. It is benign but can look like small acne bumps that never clear.
Many bumps flatten after one session. Larger ones may need a second session about 4 to 6 weeks later.
Treated bumps usually improve lasting, but new ones may form. Your home-care plan helps keep oil glands balanced.
Sessions are 60 minutes for $210, with several bumps usually treated in one visit.
One 60-minute Precision Skin Correction session treats several concerns. Not sure? Book a complimentary phone consultation and send photos beforehand.
