Molluscum contagiosum appears as small, smooth, firm, skin-coloured or pearly bumps, often with a tiny dimple in the centre. It is caused by a common skin virus, is benign, and can spread by touch, so it is assessed carefully before treatment.
After assessment, suitable bumps are treated individually with a very fine thermocoagulation probe. Strict infection-control and single-use protocols are followed for every client.
Before
AfterTiny crusts form and flake away over about one week. Keep the area clean, avoid touching or shaving over it, and do not share towels while it heals.
Moles, cysts and suspicious lesions are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. Any spot that is changing, irregular or unusual is referred to a physician or dermatologist before any cosmetic treatment. Where there is any uncertainty, Liza will not treat without written confirmation from your physician that the lesion is benign and suitable.
Liza earned her esthetics college diploma and licence in 2000, while BC’s former Cosmetologists Act was in force; BBB has verified her diploma. Since 2003, no licence has been required to practise esthetics in BC, and “medical esthetician” (or “medical aesthetician”) is not a regulated title. BC regulates the premises instead: Cantik’s studio is inspected every year by Fraser Health.
Diagnosing skin conditions and removing moles or cysts are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. These are referred to a physician or dermatologist.
Liza uses the Silhouet-Tone VascuLyse 2G®, a Health Canada-licensed device. You have the right to ask what device will be used on your skin and whether it is licensed by Health Canada.
Who will perform my treatment? What training do they hold? Is the device licensed by Health Canada? Will you refer anything outside your scope?
Yes. It spreads by skin contact and shared items such as towels, which is why strict infection control is followed and aftercare includes keeping the area covered and clean.
Each area is assessed first. Widespread bumps, bumps in sensitive areas, or anyone with a weakened immune system is referred to a physician.
Many bumps clear after one session; new ones that appear later may need a follow-up visit.
Treated bumps do not usually return, but new ones can appear while the virus is active.
