Fordyce spots are tiny, pale yellow or white bumps on the lips or lip line. They are visible oil glands, completely benign and very common, but many people find them noticeable.
After assessment, suitable Fordyce spots are treated individually with a very fine thermocoagulation probe, with a 5% lidocaine topical anesthetic for comfort on this delicate area.
Before
AfterThe lip area may be slightly swollen for a day, and tiny crusts settle over about one week. Keep lips moisturized and avoid picking.
Moles, cysts and suspicious lesions are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. Any spot that is changing, irregular or unusual is referred to a physician or dermatologist before any cosmetic treatment. Where there is any uncertainty, Liza will not treat without written confirmation from your physician that the lesion is benign and suitable.
Liza earned her esthetics college diploma and licence in 2000, while BC’s former Cosmetologists Act was in force; BBB has verified her diploma. Since 2003, no licence has been required to practise esthetics in BC, and “medical esthetician” (or “medical aesthetician”) is not a regulated title. BC regulates the premises instead: Cantik’s studio is inspected every year by Fraser Health.
Diagnosing skin conditions and removing moles or cysts are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. These are referred to a physician or dermatologist.
Liza uses the Silhouet-Tone VascuLyse 2G®, a Health Canada-licensed device. You have the right to ask what device will be used on your skin and whether it is licensed by Health Canada.
Who will perform my treatment? What training do they hold? Is the device licensed by Health Canada? Will you refer anything outside your scope?
No. Fordyce spots are normal oil glands and are benign. Treatment is purely cosmetic.
A topical anesthetic and ice are used, so most clients feel only brief warmth or a quick sting.
Many clients see clear improvement after one session; a second session may be suggested for larger or numerous spots.
Treated spots usually stay improved, but new ones can become visible over time.
One 60-minute Precision Skin Correction session treats several concerns. Not sure? Book a complimentary phone consultation and send photos beforehand.
