Cholesterol deposits, known as xanthelasma, are soft, flat, yellowish patches on or around the eyelids. They are benign, but because they can be linked to cholesterol levels, a check with your physician is recommended.
Suitable deposits are treated in careful stages with precision thermocoagulation. Because the eye area is delicate, Liza works conservatively and may plan more than one session.
Before
8 weeks afterTreated areas crust lightly and may look darker or pink for several weeks as the skin renews. Results continue to improve over about 6 to 8 weeks.
Moles, cysts and suspicious lesions are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. Any spot that is changing, irregular or unusual is referred to a physician or dermatologist before any cosmetic treatment. Where there is any uncertainty, Liza will not treat without written confirmation from your physician that the lesion is benign and suitable.
Liza earned her esthetics college diploma and licence in 2000, while BC’s former Cosmetologists Act was in force; BBB has verified her diploma. Since 2003, no licence has been required to practise esthetics in BC, and “medical esthetician” (or “medical aesthetician”) is not a regulated title. BC regulates the premises instead: Cantik’s studio is inspected every year by Fraser Health.
Diagnosing skin conditions and removing moles or cysts are outside esthetic practice, medical esthetics included. These are referred to a physician or dermatologist.
Liza uses the Silhouet-Tone VascuLyse 2G®, a Health Canada-licensed device. You have the right to ask what device will be used on your skin and whether it is licensed by Health Canada.
Who will perform my treatment? What training do they hold? Is the device licensed by Health Canada? Will you refer anything outside your scope?
A physician check of your cholesterol is recommended, as xanthelasma can be linked to lipid levels. Cosmetic treatment does not replace medical care.
Usually more than one, spaced about 6 to 8 weeks apart, depending on the size and thickness of the deposits.
Xanthelasma can return over time, especially if cholesterol levels are not managed.
Each case is assessed individually. If a deposit is too close to the lash line or eye to treat safely, Liza will tell you.
One 60-minute Precision Skin Correction session treats several concerns. Not sure? Book a complimentary phone consultation and send photos beforehand.
