How to Choose a Thermocoagulation Provider

By Liza James, licensed esthetician since 2000 · Surrey, South Surrey & White Rock
The short answer

Before booking thermocoagulation, ask five things: which device they use and whether it is Health Canada licensed, how long they have been certified, whether the same person assesses and treats you, whether moles and suspicious lesions are referred to a physician, and whether the price is clear up front.

1. Which device, and is it licensed?

Results depend on the equipment. Cantik uses the Silhouet-Tone VascuLyse 2G, a Health Canada-licensed thermocoagulation device.

2. How long have they been certified?

Thermocoagulation looks simple but relies on judgment: setting, depth and when to stop. Liza has been a licensed esthetician since 2000 and certified in thermocoagulation since 2011.

3. Who will actually treat you?

The person who assesses your skin should be the person who treats it. When you book with Liza, she does both herself.

4. Do they know when to refer?

Moles, cysts and suspicious lesions are outside esthetic practice. A trustworthy provider will tell you when something needs a physician or dermatologist.

5. Is the price clear?

At Cantik, a Precision Skin Correction session is 60 minutes for $210, with several concerns usually treated. No per-spot surprises.
